Commissions FAQ

This is something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while. Commissions are on a trial basis right now; if feedback is positive then I’ll make it a permanent thing.

How it works:

You send me the raws of the manga/oneshot/doujinshi you’re interested in (keep in mind that whatever it is MUST be in Japanese). I’ll take a look and give you a quote plus a sample page translation. Once you give the go-ahead, you’ll receive an invoice for a down payment of 25% of the final cost. I’ll contact you once the job is finished and when you’ve paid the difference, I’ll send the finished product to you via email.

You may choose whether or not you want it released to the public. If you do want a public release, scans will then be watermarked and resized to regular release standards. If you don’t want a public release, the work can be re-commissioned for the same price. However, if the second/third/nth commissioner decides s/he wants it shared, it will then be shared. IF A MANGA HAS WATERMARKS, IT WILL NOT BE RELEASED PUBLICLY WITHOUT THE SCANNER’S OKAY. That’s also your responsibility.

I am willing to translate on a chapter by chapter basis, as well as start donor projects (ie: you commission chapter one of manga X, and hopefully interested parties pick up the rest). Preexisting or half-finished manga will NOT be eligible for donor projects, but if you feel the need to throw a few bucks at me to bump up project priority, by all means… :P

Payment: PAYPAL ONLY

I’m sorry, but it’s the only reliable way for me to accept payment without going through a huge rigamarole.

Base Prices*

Editing includes: Text removal, typesetting, cleaning if necessary (lots of it may cost extra)

COMPLETE SFX EDITING: $1.00 per average page

Price may go up or down depending on the extensiveness of the SFX

NO SFX EDITING: $.75 per average page

Because I honestly can’t stand leaving SFX alone if a reader can’t read Japanese, a text file of translated SFX will be included in the finished project.

TEXT ONLY: $.50 per average page

*Textless pages are free of charge regardless of cleaning

What I won’t do:

Licensed manga; manga that already has an English translation.
[!] Yes, this means I will do yaoi, yuri, hentai, non-H, shotacon, lolicon, toddlercon, guro, rape, prego, tentacles, futanari, scat, bestiality, freakshow, whatever other fetishes you may think of.

Clarification:

Does this mean Trine will no longer do free projects?

Absolutely not. D: I translate what I enjoy and think other people will enjoy for the site; I’d never charge for stuff like that.

What about novels?

Err, I dunno…

Would you do a text translation if I want a book done but don’t want to scan?

That’s possible, if you’d want to send me the book and receive a printed translation… but I’d have to discuss something like this in further detail via email.

Would you buy and scan a book for me if there aren’t any raws?

If I can find it, I guess it’s possible… You’d have to pay for shipping, etc. though.
